UP SIR: After the Election Commission (EC) released the draft revised list for Uttar Pradesh, announcing the removal of 2.89 crore voters after conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, UP BJP’s top brass met to discuss the large exclusions ahead of the 2027 Assembly Election. They also asked the party leaders to get around 200 voters added at each polling booth before the poll body finalises the voter list.

As per EC, over 81 per cent of the voters from the previous list had been retained. It added that while the total number of voters in Uttar Pradesh was 15.44 crore in October 2025, when the SIR process began, it is now 12.56 crore after the revision.

A senior BJP leader elaborated on how the Yogi Adityanath government plans to enroll genuine voters.

“As per the target of 200 voters per booth, party leaders have been asked to ensure that they enroll over 3.5 crore genuine voters. These could be new young voters, those deleted from the rolls due to lack of documents or errors in electoral rolls, and those untraceable as well as unmapped,” a senior state BJP leader told The Indian Express.

The EC will now publish the final list on March 6 and the affected voters can object to their omission till February 6.

As per Indian Express sources, a meeting was held by CM Yogi Adityanath and state BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary with state ministers and party officials at various posts to discuss the large number of deletions.

The senior party leader also mentioned that the party officials will get in contact with those who work outside but hail from UP and request them to enroll in the state ahead of the 2027 election.
