UP SIR Draft Voter List: The Election Commission of India has released the draft voter list for Uttar Pradesh, revealing that over 2.89 crore voters have been removed following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Among these, 46.23 lakh individuals were identified as deceased voters.
The Voter list revision which began with the issuance of individual voter forms, resulted in the removal of voters for several reasons. 2.17 crore voters were found to have changed addresses, while 25.47 lakh individuals were registered in multiple locations. These updates were part of the Commission’s efforts to maintain an accurate and up-to-date electoral roll.
The final version of the voter list is set to be published on March 6, after a one-month window for claims and objections. Voters have the opportunity to check their names in the draft list through the official portal and raise any concerns about errors, deletions, or additions to the list.
According to the Election Commission, 12.55 crore forms (81 per cent) were successfully returned after being distributed to citizens for door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). However, 18.7 per cent of forms were not returned, leading to the removal of the corresponding voters.
