UP Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for dense fog and cold day conditions in parts of western Uttar Pradesh. Over the past few days, minimum temperatures across the state have dropped by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, intensifying the cold.

In the eastern region, dense fog is likely to prevail at many places today, with the possibility of cold day conditions in some areas. Morning visibility may reduce to 100-150 metres, affecting normal life.

Owing to the severe cold, schools from nursery to Class 8 have been closed in several districts. Foggy conditions have also disrupted road, rail, and air services across the state.

Cold Day Warning In These Districts

With cold day conditions and chilly winds, people may experience biting cold even during daytime. Authorities have advised residents to step out only if necessary. A warning for dense fog and cold day conditions has been issued for Kanpur, Fatehpur, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, and Kaushambi. Meanwhile, a yellow alert for cold day conditions is in place for Jalaun and Hamirpur.

Dense fog is also expected in Shravasti, Bahraich, Gonda, Balrampur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Sultanpur, Amethi, Varanasi, Chandauli, Mirzapur, and Sonbhadra. These districts remain under a yellow alert for fog, while the rest of the state is in the green zone, where fog intensity is likely to be lower.

Slight Relief From Fog For Two Days

Some relief from fog is expected from December 23, with minimum temperatures likely to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. However, this respite may be short-lived, as weather conditions are expected to change again, bringing back fog and a fresh dip in temperatures after three days.

In the last 24 hours, Sultanpur emerged as the coldest district in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 4.7 Degree Celsius. Barabanki, Ayodhya, Bareilly, and Shahjahanpur also reported low temperatures ranging between 5 and 6 Degree Celsius.
