The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has intensified preparations for the operation of 34 e-buses, with plans to set up charging points across seven cities to resolve the charging-related challenges faced on long routes.

The district had received 35 e-buses from UPSRTC in July, of which four are currently operating on the Mathura route and are being charged in Noida. Three buses are yet to be delivered. The remaining buses are parked at the Sahibabad depot workshop, where a charging station is under construction and expected to be ready within the next 15 to 20 days.

A major hurdle in launching e-bus services on long routes was the lack of charging infrastructure. While an e-bus can travel around 230 km on a single charge, UPSRTC has identified several routes stretching over 450 km. To address this, the corporation has approved the installation of charging points in Purkaji (Muzaffarnagar), Najibabad, Kasganj, Etah, Aligarh, Agra, and Mathura. According to officials, work in Muzaffarnagar is nearly complete, and preparations in the remaining cities have been expedited.

UPSRTC also plans to operate e-buses to Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun, where charging responsibilities will be handed over to private agencies. The corporation is currently identifying private organisations with charging setups near major travel routes and will finalise agreements through its headquarters.

Officials stated that e-bus operations are expected to begin by the end of the year, once infrastructure and formalities are in place. Charging arrangements on all designated routes will be completed, including the Sahibabad depot station.

"The transport corporation will establish its own charging points in seven cities and finalise an agreement with a private entity for Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun. Work is progressing rapidly," said Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Regional Manager, Sahibabad Depot.
