In a major crackdown on illegal construction, the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) on Saturday sealed seven residential and commercial buildings and demolished illegal plotting at two locations. The simultaneous action across Herbertpur, Vikasnagar, Dakpathar, and Selaqui created a stir in the region.

According to MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari, the most significant action took place in Herbertpur, where around five bigha of illegal land plotting in Aitanbagh, allegedly carried out by Prashant, was demolished. In the same area, a two-storey commercial building belonging to Amar Singh was sealed.

In Vikasnagar, operations were carried out at four sites. On Chakrata Road in Babugarh, a construction by Bharat Singh Negi (Heritage Wedding Point) was sealed. At Gurudwara Chowk, two commercial buildings being built by Neeraj Gupta and Manoj Kumar were sealed, while on Telpur Marg near Durga Mandir, illegal construction by Ramshah was stopped.

Strict action was also taken in Dakpathar, where illegal constructions by Ravindra Chauhan, Shahil, and Ashu in the Jeevangarh area were sealed. In Selaqui, the MDDA sealed an under-construction sports ground on Bahadurpur Road. The project, spread over 2.5 bigha and being developed by Sunil Thapa, was found to be illegal.

The drive was carried out with the support of Sector Assistant Abhishek Bhardwaj, MDDA’s joint team, and an adequate police force.

Vice-Chairman Tiwari said the authority has so far acted against more than 200 illegal constructions and plottings. He stressed that while the interests of law-abiding builders are fully protected, strict action will continue against violators without any pressure. “Planned development and public safety remain our top priorities,” he added.
