To manage the anticipated surge in tourist traffic on the Dehradun-Mussoorie route during the upcoming Christmas, New Year, and weekend holidays, the Doon Police has released a detailed traffic plan and advisory. The primary objective is to ensure smooth traffic flow, prevent congestion, and guarantee the safety of travellers. Authorities have strongly advised the public to consult this traffic plan before commencing their journeys.
Route Plan For Vehicles Heading To Mussoorie
From Delhi, Roorkee and Saharanpur: Vehicles travelling from these areas will take the route via Mohand, Asharodi,and the ISBT. From there, they will proceed to the Shimla Bypass, St Jude's Chowk, Ballupur Chowk, and Garhi Cantt. The route continues through Anarwala and Johri Gaon to join the main Mussoorie Road, finally reaching Mussoorie via Kuthalgate.
From Haridwar And Rishikesh:
Plan A (Standard Route): Traffic will move from Haridwar or Rishikesh through Harrawala, over the Mohkampur Flyover, and to Jogiwal. Vehicles will take a U-turn from Kailash Hospital, proceed to Pulia Number 06, Ring Road, and Ladpur. The route then goes through the Sahastradhara Crossing, IT Park, Kirsali Chowk, and the Sai Mandir T-junction, joining the Mussoorie Diversion to reach Mussoorie via Kuthalgate.
Plan B (In Case of City Congestion): If there is heavy traffic within Dehradun city, vehicles will be diverted via Nepali Farm, Bhaniyawala, the Airport, and Thano Road. Traffic will then reach Maharana Pratap Chowk, Ladpur, Sahastradhara Crossing, IT Park, Kirsali Chowk, and Sai Mandir, proceeding to the Mussoorie Diversion and finally to Kuthalgate.
Return Route From Mussoorie
For the return journey, vehicles will descend from Mussoorie via Kuthalgate to Old Rajpur Road and Rajpur. From there, traffic will be directed to Sai Mandir, Kirsali Chowk, IT Park, Tapovan Bypass, and Nalapani Chowk. Finally, vehicles will move through Ladpur and Jogiwal to head towards Haridwar, Rishikesh, or the ISBT.
Parking Arrangements In Mussoorie
To accommodate the holiday rush, parking capacity for over 3,500 vehicles has been arranged in Mussoorie. Key parking locations include Picture Palace, Landour Road, Kempty Taxi Stand, Town Hall, King Craig, hotel parking lots, and Gajji Band.
Contingency Parking Plans
Plan B: This will be implemented once parking capacity in the hill station reaches 70 percent. Under this plan, vehicles will be parked at the King Craig parking lot, and tourists will be transported to their destinations using local taxi or shuttle services.
Plan C: If the King Craig parking becomes full, taxi services will operate from Gajji Band.
Dehradun City Traffic Diversions
The police have also established diversion plans for key congestion points within Dehradun:
Rajpur Road And Pacific Mall: If congestion occurs here, traffic coming down from Mussoorie will be diverted from Sai Mandir towards the IT Park.
Annexe And CSD T-junction: Traffic heading towards Dilaram Chowk will be diverted towards Johri Gaon.
Ghantaghar Area: In the event of heavy traffic, diversions will be enforced from Orient Chowk, Buddha Chowk, and Tehsil Chowk.
City Parking Arrangements And Christmas Specifics
Dehradun city has made provisions for over 1,700 cars at major locations, including Rangers Ground, Parade Ground, MDDA Parking, Rajiv Gandhi Complex, and the Kanak Chowk Multilevel Parking. Specific arrangements for malls and churches are as follows:
Centrio Mall: If the mall parking is full, alternative parking is available at NCR Plaza, Hathibarkala (near the Passport Office), and Bakshi Plaza (near the Passport Office in Hathibarkala).
Pacific Mall And Rajpur Road: Should the mall and nearby complex parking fill up, the Municipal Corporation has arranged paid roadside parking on one side of the road from Scholar's Home to ICICI Bank on Rajpur Road, and on one side opposite Pacific Hills.
Cross Road Mall: If parking is full, vehicles can be parked in the ground adjacent to the mall.

Nainital Bakery And Ellora-CNI Church (Globe Chowk): If parking in this area is full, paid parking is available opposite Anandam Sweet Shop at Behl Chowk, along the road from Punjab Jewellers to Park View Hotel at Orient Chowk, and at JJ Tower near HDFC Bank at Behl Chowk.
Church Parking: For St. Francis' Church, parking is available at Parade Ground (opposite Tibetan Market). For St John's Church (near Doon Hospital), parking is available at the Rajiv Gandhi Complex at Tehsil Chowk.
Additional Mussoorie Parking For Events
Library Chowk Area: Parking available at Kempty Taxi Stand.
Picture Palace (Kulri): Parking available at King Craig Multistorey Parking.
