The Uttarakhand government has taken cognisance of nine recent deaths attributed to viral fever, including six in the Dhauladevi block of Almora and three in Roorkee. In response, Secretary of Health, Dr R Rajesh Kumar, has directed the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of both Almora and Haridwar to launch an immediate investigation into the fatalities.
For the past fortnight, a mysterious fever has been spreading through the Dhauladevi block, resulting in six deaths. Patients arriving at hospitals have been presenting with symptoms of viral fever accompanied by a rapid drop in their platelet counts. The situation has led to significant anger among the victims' relatives and local public representatives, who have accused the health department of failing to provide adequate treatment.
Following these reports, the Health Secretary has instructed the Almora CMO to dispatch a specialised health department team to the Dhauladevi block. The team's mandate is to ascertain the exact cause of the fever, provide on-the-spot treatment to affected individuals, and collect patient samples for laboratory testing.

Simultaneously, the CMO of Haridwar has been instructed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the three fever-related deaths reported in Roorkee. The health department is working to identify the cause and contain the spread of the illness.
