Due to heavy overnight rain, the Ganga river is swelling once again. On Wednesday, the river's water level crossed the warning mark and reached near the danger mark. Although it has dropped slightly since then, the water level is still above the warning mark. In response, the police are continuously monitoring the riverbanks from Muni Ki Reti to Rishikesh.
The direct impact of the heavy downpour over the last three days is visible on the Ganga's water level. The river is consistently flowing above the warning level, which has caused the 'Aarti' area at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh to become completely submerged in water. The main reasons for this rise are the continuous rain and the release of water from dams.
On Tuesday, the Ganga's water level was at 339.84 meters, having crossed the warning point of 339.50 meters. On Wednesday, it rose even further, reaching 340.04 meters—very close to the danger mark—at 9 am. By 10 am, it was at 339.96 meters and by 4 pm, the water had receded a bit more to 339.89 meters.

As soon as the water level crossed the warning mark, police teams began alerting people. According to Inspector Pradeep Rana, the officer in charge of the Rishikesh police station, the Triveni Ghat police post and the water police are keeping a constant watch on the situation. Similarly, Inspector Pradeep Chauhan, the officer in charge of Muni Ki Reti, also stated that the police are continuously monitoring the Ganga ghats in his area.
