After a long wait, a shift in weather patterns led to snowfall in Uttarakhand on Friday. Snowfall occurred at all four Dhams, including Kedarnath and Badrinath. In the lower-lying areas, some places are experiencing rain while others remain overcast. Although the cold seemed to have disappeared from Uttarakhand over the past few days, the sudden change in weather has brought back the shivering chills.

Snowfall Underway In Several Areas Including Yamunotri And Gangotri Dhams

Uttarkashi: Snowfall has commenced in several areas of the district, including the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams. Meanwhile, the lower regions are experiencing rainfall. Consequently, a drop in temperature has resulted in severe cold conditions.

It is worth noting that the district had been experiencing a dry spell since the last monsoon season. The lack of rain and snow was causing growing anxiety among farmers involved in agriculture and horticulture. With rain and snowfall beginning after nearly four months, these farmers view this as a major relief. According to information received from the Disaster Control Room, snowfall is currently taking place in the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams, Harshil Valley, and areas like Dhari Kafnol and Kharsali in the Yamuna Valley.

At the district headquarters, a spell of drizzling began following light winds in the morning. Apple growers from the Harshil Valley, including Mohan Rana, Sanjay Panwar and Rajesh Panwar, stated that the absence of snowfall meant the apple trees were not receiving adequate chilling hours. They added that good snowfall would satisfy the chilling requirements of the apple trees. Additionally, tasks such as making tree basins, which were stalled due to a lack of soil moisture, can now be resumed.
