Uttarakhand Weather Update: Administration On High Alert Following Orange Warning For Rain And Snowfall

The Uttarakhand government is on alert following the Meteorological Department's orange alert for rain and snowfall on January 23. Following instructions from Chief Minister Dhami, the Disaster Management Secretary held a virtual meeting, directing officials in all districts to take precautionary measures. Various departments, including the Police, Health and the PWD, have been told to remain on alert. Instructions have also been issued to pay special attention to the safety of pregnant women and newborn infants.

The administration has become vigilant following the orange alert for rain and snowfall issued by the Meteorological Department for Uttarakhand on January 23. Following directives from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman held a virtual meeting on Wednesday with District Disaster Management Officers and officials from other departments, instructing them to take precautionary measures.

Review Of Preparedness And Departmental Instructions

In the meeting, the Disaster Management Secretary reviewed the preparedness of the districts in view of potential rain, snowfall, frost, cold waves, and the situations arising from them. He directed that during the period of potential adverse weather, extreme caution should be exercised and all executing agencies should be kept on alert. He specifically instructed the Police, Health, Public Works, Electricity, Drinking Water, Animal Husbandry and Urban Local Bodies departments to remain prepared.

Special Safety Arrangements For Pregnant Women And Newborns

Prioritising the safety of pregnant women and newborn infants, the secretary directed that all necessary arrangements for safe deliveries in sensitive, remote, and high-mountainous areas be ensured in advance. Arrangements should be made to transport pregnant women to nearby health centres in a timely manner if needed, and ambulance services should be kept active.
