El Mencho Death: In a major revelation, the Mexican officials stated that "El Mencho", the drug lord killed by the army on Sunday, was tracked through his romantic partner. The officials stated that his girlfriend left a clue about the location, leading to his detention, adding that he was tracked with the support of US intelligence. Mexican Defence Secretary Gen. Ricardo Trevilla stated that special forces found "El Mencho" hidden in his home state of Jalisco. He further stated that the drug lord was taken into custody after a total of eight gunmen were killed after several shootouts.
How "El Mencho" Was Tracked?
The officials stated that the drug lord was detained with the help of US intelligence, adding that his romantic partner also played a key role. "On February 21, she left the property, and information was obtained that El Mencho remained at the location," one of the officials asserted. While providing details, the Mexican defence secretary stated that they identified and followed a trusted associate of one of El Mencho's romantic partners.

Trevilla further stated that the woman was escorted to Tapalpa on Friday for a meeting with "El Mencho", adding that the exact location was confirmed by critical information provided by US intelligence. The special forces finalised their plans after the woman left the site after spending the night with "El Mencho".
Six Others Killed
The defence ministry of Mexico also revealed that at least six security guards of the drug lord were also killed in the operation. The party members of CJNG created a ruckus and torched businesses in retaliation for the killing of their leader.
Oseguera Cervantes, popularly known as "El Mencho", was wounded in an operation to capture him on Sunday in Tapalpa and died while being flown to Mexico City, the Defence Department said in a statement. The state is the base of the cartel known for trafficking huge quantities of fentanyl and other drugs to the United States.
