As Republican nominee Donald Trump secured presidential victory on Wednesday, marking a historic return to the White House after his defeat in 2020. His victory over Vice President Kamala Harris comes amidst a turbulent backdrop, including the Capitol attack by his supporters and multiple felony charges tied to hush money allegations. Now poised for a second term, Trump’s comeback sets the stage for a unique chapter in US political history.

As Donald Trump prepares to begin his second term as president, he has outlined an ambitious agenda with 10 key promises he plans to tackle immediately. These pledges touch on critical areas from immigration reform to national security and economic policy, each reflecting his commitment to reshaping the country’s direction. Here are the key priorities Trump has set for his upcoming term in office.

  1. Tariff On All Imports

Donald Trump has proposed a sweeping 10 per cent tariff on all imports, aiming to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce US reliance on foreign goods. This policy is central to his vision of economic nationalism, intended to encourage American-made products, protect local industries, and create jobs within the country.

  1. Largest Deportation In US History

Trump has pledged to significantly escalate deportations, proposing the removal of all approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the US without legal status.

  1. Cut Clean Energy Funding

Donald Trump has dismissed climate change as a ‘hoax’ and promised to expand fossil fuel production, roll back environmental regulations, and cut federal support for clean energy. He also plans to dismantle the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), a major climate investment passed during the Biden administration.

  1. Focus On School Choice And LGBTQ+ Topic Restrictions

Trump plans to close the Department of Education and restore prayer in schools. He aims to create an American Academy offering low-cost degrees, funded by penalties on institutions not aligning with his ideological standards. His education agenda includes revitalising school choice and restricting discussions of LGBTQ+ topics in classrooms.

  1. 10,000 New Border Patrol Agents

Former President Donald Trump is pushing Congress to pass legislation that would increase the number of border patrol agents. His proposal includes hiring 10,000 new agents, raising salaries for current agents by 10 per cent, and offering USD 10,000 ( Rs 8,31,000 )retention and signing bonuses. This comes after he blocked a previous bipartisan measure that also sought to increase staffing.

  1. Invoke Alien Enemies Act

Trump's proposal is based on the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, which was part of the Alien and Sedition Acts during President John Adams' administration. The act allowed the president to authorise the relocation, arrest, or deportation of any male over 14 from a country at war with the US. While the Alien and Sedition Acts were set to expire in 1801, the Alien Enemies Act remained in effect and became part of US law.

Trump's administration proposed using the Alien Enemies Act to deport undocumented immigrants linked to gangs, leveraging the law's authority to remove individuals deemed a threat to national security.
