The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, involving the United States, Israel and Iran has left many passengers stranded in different countries. The airspace across some parts of Gulf countries remains heavily restricted following missile strikes in the region, leading to disruption in flight services. Many commercial flights through major hub airports were suspended last week causing travel chaos.

According to the BBC, many British travellers were stranded in different countries after their flights were cancelled when the conflict began. Some passengers are even stuck in distant destinations and are facing unexpected expenses for hotels, food, and other essentials. The report added that passengers were further worried that these additional costs may not be covered by their travel insurance.
The news outlet reported the experience of a traveller, Andrea Pendrey, who went on aholiday to the Maldives with her partner before starting treatment for breast cancer. While they were supposed to fly back home on Sunday, March 1, they couldn’t as their flight was cancelled due to the war.
What Exaclty Happened?
According to Pendrey, when they reached the airport, the airline told them they had to find a place for them to stay and pay for it. "Emirates just told us we need to find a room, at our own cost and the airport was filled up with more and more people," she told BBC. She added that the airport quickly became crowded with many people whose flights were also cancelled.
The couple found a resort to stay in, but it was very expensive. She said they may spend about £12,000 extra (approximately Rs 1,478,646) before they can leave. She mentioned that her partner had already lost his job before the trip, so the extra money was causing a lot of stress. They had to pay using a credit card. “The money is stressing me out…We've just had to put it on a credit card,” she said.
Pendrey also stated that she had to miss her treatment for cancer which was due to start last Thursday in the UK. “I'm trying not to think about it too much. I need to get home for my chemo. It's not helping being here," she said.
For almost a week, the couple tried every day to find new flights but could not. However, Andrea’s insurance company called her finally, calling her case a medical emergency. They have arranged her flight back to the UK through Frankfurt on Monday.
