BMC Election: Municipal corporations across Maharashtra will go to polls in a single phase on January 15. The results will be declared on the following day, January 16. Out of the 29 municipal corporations, the major focus will be on India's richest civic body, the high-profile Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
BMC Is India’s Richest Civic Body
As per the data available in the public domain, in the financial year 2024-25, BMC’s budget was approximately twice the budget of Delhi and Bengaluru combined together. As a result, BMC is known to be the most resourceful and wealthy municipal corporation in India.

What Were The Budgets Of Various Municipal Corporations In 2024-2025
As per media reports the budgets were as follows:
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) - Rs 16,683
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) - Rs 12,369 crore
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) - Rs 59,954.7 crore
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) - 5,166.5 crore
BMC Revenue Source
A solid fixed deposit acts as a backbone for BMC’s revenue. The interest on this deposit adds to a large extent to its annual revenue. BMC's revenue was Rs 81,774 crore in FY25.
Apart from the deposits, BMC also gathers a considerable amount from grants and subsidies given by Maharashtra and central government. Other sources of revenue include fees for various services and licences.
How Much And Where Does BMC Spend?
In the financial year 2015-16, BMC’s spendings stood at Rs 20,500 crore. However, this rose significantly to Rs 44,500 in the financial year 2024-2025.
BMC has majorly spent its resources for bridges, roads, education, health, employees' wages and pensions and other development infrastructure.
In FY25, BMC spent heavily on health schemes and initiatives. Rs 99.5 crore was used to tackle vector-borne diseases and pesticides. Meanwhile, Rs 12.8 crore was spent on rodent control.

Voters are encouraged to check their names in the final voter list through the official portals:
Step 1: Maharashtra SEC Voter List Portal: Visit mahasecvoterlist.in and search for your name by entering your full name or your EPIC number.
Step 2: National Voters Service Portal: Visit voters.eci.gov.in and click on the "Search in Electoral Roll" option. Enter your EPIC number to check your name on the voter list.
Step 3: Mobile App: Download the app from eci.gov.in/voter-helpline-app/ and check your details on-the-go.
