BMC Elections 2026: The results of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation were declared on Friday, January 16. The BJP-led Mahayuti secured a resounding win with 118 seats, while Shiv Sena (Uddbhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadhchandra Pawar) managed to win 72 seats.

The election results ended the political clout of the Thackeray family, which had ruled over the BMC for nearly two decades. As India’s richest municipal body, with an annual budget exceeding that of several states, the BMC has a decisive role in Maharashtra’s civic infrastructure and the larger political spectrum within the state.
