Maharashtra Weather Update: The India Meteorologist Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a heavy to very heavy rain alert for several districts of Maharashtra at least till October 7. The weather department stated that multiple districts, including Mumbai, Pune, Palghar, and Thane, are set to witness rain due to the development of Cyclone ‘Shakti’ in the Arabian Sea. While providing details, the IMD stated that these regions are likely to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds along with heavy rainfall. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.

While providing details, the weather department stated that several districts, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, are set to witness heavy rainfall for the next few days. The coastal regions are also likely to witness strong surface winds with speeds of 55 to 65 kmph. However, the IMD stated that the wind speed is expected to increase if the cyclone intensifies. Apart from this, the IMD has also issued a heavy rain alert for the interior regions, including East Vidarbha, Marathwada, and North Konkan.

The IMD stated that the continuous rainfall is likely to disrupt daily life and is also likely to damage the crops. The weather department has advised the fishermen of the coastal regions to follow the guidelines and limit their financial activities to avoid inconveniences. The IMD has also advised the residents of the low-lying areas to stay cautious and follow the guidelines for the next few days.

The Maharashtra government has directed the district administrations to stay on alert and take necessary steps to limit the damages. The state government has asked the local administration to stay prepared for possible emergency situations. Authorities have been asked to activate disaster management systems and ready evacuation plans for citizens living in low-lying areas.
