A group of youngsters returning home after a late-night party reportedly hit a disabled man walking along the road in Narayan Peth, Pune. After the accident, the group rushed to help the injured man, but tensions escalated when the driver allegedly shouted that his father is a policeman.
The video was posted on X by social activist Vijay Kumbhar, who wrote, “A group of youngsters returning from a party rammed their car into a disabled man and then behaved as though the law didn’t apply to them. If the police want public trust, this is the moment to prove it. Arrest him, charge him, and stop letting badges become family property."

Video Of The Incident
In the video, it can be seen that after the crash, the youths in the vehicle initially refused to get out, leading bystanders to pull them from the car. Tensions rose when one of them shouted, “I’m a policeman’s son, don’t hit me,” which further provoked the crowd. Amid the ensuing chaos, the driver and his two male companions were attacked. The two women in the car, frightened by the commotion, stepped out and tried to defuse the situation.
Assaulting a disabled man is horrible enough. But shouting, “I’m a cop’s son, don’t touch me!” exposes an even deeper rot, inherited impunity.

Case Closed After Mutual Agreement
Onlookers called for stringent measures against drunk driving, but ultimately, neither side filed a formal complaint. Following a mutual agreement, the police released all involved. Authorities confirmed that the injured individual had only minor injuries.
People Demand Action
A user said, “Horrible enough that a disabled man was hit but yelling “I’m a cop’s son!” makes it even uglier. If reports hold, this calls for straight-up action under IPC 279, 337/338, 323, 506 & 34. Badges aren’t family property. Time for Pune Police to walk the talk.”
Another user said, “In India, if you come from a family of cops, politicians, or businessmen basically any family with money you get a waiver from legal action.”

“First of all the public themselves should’ve beaten him up for a good hour”, third user said.
One more user mentioned, “Police don't care about laws being secretly bribed. Zero FIR (for BNS 109-74-318) is still not automatically converted to regular FIR EVEN AFTER 1 YR OVER by Ravet Police Station (Pimprichinchwad police), as competent Court not intervening Suomotto. Evidence attached.”
