Maharashtra Food Poisoning: A district council school in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, had to send up to 80 of its students to the hospital after they consumed biscuits as part of a nutritious lunch program. According to local officials, children at the Keket Jalgaon village school started feeling sick and throwing up at 8:30 AM on Saturday.
Following the complaint, the head of the village and administrative officials showed up at the school and made arrangements for the students to be taken to the hospital.
According to India Today, 257 children displayed signs of food poisoning after consuming the biscuits, said hospital medical officer Dr Babasaheb Ghughe. 153 of them were taken to the hospital and some of them received treatment and were sent home.
Additionally, he stated that seven children who experienced serious symptoms were sent to the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Civil Hospital in order to receive additional care. There are 296 students enrolled in the school, and the inquiry into the cause of the food poisoning is still ongoing.
Shivam Yadav, 15, a Class 8 student, died earlier on August 8 at the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Uttar Pradesh, where he had been transferred from the Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College.
Shivam was one of 90 students who became ill on Sunday evening after eating supper at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Ashram Paddhati School's hostel in Bariyarpur, Deoria, and was transported to Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College.
