Maharashtra Expressway Update: Maharashtra's Vidarbha region is set to witness major transformation as the government is planning to build four expressways in the upcoming years. While one of the expressways is already under the construction, the works on the other proposed projects are likely to commence soon. The ambitious projects are likely to significantly boost the regional connectivity and provide convenience to thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion. Apart from improving the connectivity, these projects are also set to boost the financial activities in the region, leading to more job opportunities.

The Vidarbha region is currently connected by the flagship Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg, which connects several districts, including Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Washim, and Buldhana. However, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is building four new expressways in the region- Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth, Nagpur-Gondia, Nagpur-Chandrapur, and Bhandara-Gadchiroli. These projects will connect the eastern part of Vidarbha to the main cities of Maharashtra and will boost the connectivity significantly.

The authority stated that only Akola district will remain outside the expressway connectivity once these projects are completed. While Vidarbha is considered one of the most neglected areas of the state, these expressways will boost the growth by connecting the rural areas to the main cities. The MSRDC stated that the Samruddhi Expressway has significantly cut the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur, providing major relief to the commuters.

Apart from Nagpur, the expressway has also improved the connectivity of five other districts of the Vidarbha region. The authority also stated that the Bhandara-Gadchiroli Expressway will connect Gadchiroli, one of the most backward districts of the state to several key cities, leading to massive economic growth. The 94-kilometers-long expressway is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 12,903 crore and will connect multiple districts of the state.
