A biker was crushed to death by a speeding truck in Maharashtra’s Thane early Monday after his foot got stuck in a manhole, causing him to fall on the road. The accident occurred near Kalwa Hospital, where visibility was reportedly low.
According to an NDTV report, the victim failed to notice the open manhole in the darkness and slipped when his foot got trapped in the drain. Moments later, a speeding truck ran over him, killing him on the spot, officials said.

The manhole is positioned well below road level, with a deep pit around it, creating a hazardous stretch for two-wheelers. Residents have expressed anger, alleging that despite repeated accidents involving bikers and pedestrians, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has not addressed these critical road safety issues.
In a separate incident, a 13-year-old girl from Delhi, Zara Khan, had her hand and toes amputated after she was severely burned by a high-tension electricity line running over a rooftop in Achheja Buzurg village, Greater Noida.
The incident occurred on April 2 when she was visiting her maternal uncle’s home and accidentally came into contact with the live wire while standing on a neighbouring rooftop. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors amputated her right hand and two toes to save her life.
Her family had long urged electricity department officials to remove or shift the dangerous power line, but no action was taken. Eight months after Mohammed, her uncle, filed a written complaint, police have now registered a case against unidentified officials of the electricity corporation, alleging negligence. Kotwali in-charge Munendra Singh said further action will follow once the investigation reveals more details.
