Maharashtra Civic Polls: Mahayuti alliance partners Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his deputy Ajit Pawar got involved in a war of words ahead of the much-awaited civic body elections in Maharashtra. While addressing a press conference in Pimpri, Pawar stated that pointing out governance issues should not be taken personally. His remarks came after Fadnavis accused the NCP chief of making unrealistic promises, further accusing him of being active only during the polls. While the NCP and BJP are the alliance partners in the state government, they are contesting the civic body polls in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad separately.
While addressing the press conference, Pawar stated that he highlighted the mistakes because the civic elections were held after nine years, adding that he did not criticise the BJP. “I am not criticising the BJP. I am only highlighting mistakes in the PCMC. Pointing out mistakes is not criticism,” Pawar told the reporters.
Earlier on Saturday, Fadnavis accused Pawar of making unrealistic promises to the residents. The chief minister further stated that the NCP has fielded candidates with criminal backgrounds.

While addressing a rally, the NCP chief stated that the BJP could not fulfill any of its promises during its tenure from 2017 to 2022. He further demanded a probe into several development projects, claiming that the cost of several projects surged multiple times.
However, Fadnavis clarified that the metro fare is decided by both the state and central government, adding that unrealistic promises should not be made during the polls. “Even if I want to waive fares, I cannot do it. You have to say who will bear the cost,” Fadnavis stated.
