Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while talking about the Thackeray brothers' reunion after two decades, accepted the credit for the alliance. He stated that while Raj and Uddhav Thackeray have joined hands, it will not have a major effect on the politics of Maharashtra. The chief minister stated that it was a political compulsion for the brothers to come together, adding that the 'Thackeray brand' ended with the death of Balasaheb Thackeray. The first litmus test for the Thackeray brothers will be the Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC) polls, which are set to be conducted in January 2026.
Fadnavis stated that the alliance between the Thackeray brothers will not benefit the opposition, adding that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has carried forward the ideas of Bal Thackeray. "I was able to do what no one could," Fadnavis was quoted as saying by NDTV. "Today's political space makes them believe they can increase their share by coming together". I thank Raj Thackeray for giving me credit for the Thackeray reunion; I was able to do what no one else could," the chief minister added.

While claiming that their reunion was due to the political compulsion, Fadnavis stated that the NDA will dominate the local body polls. "I don't think it will make any difference in the elections," the chief minister emphasised.
Earlier, while addressing a rally in Worli, Raj Thackeray had emphasised that the wrong policies of the NDA government brought the brothers together. "Uddhav (Thackeray) and I are coming together after 20 years... What Balasaheb Thackeray could not do, thousands others couldn't do, Devendra Fadnavis managed to do that," Thackeray stated.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections are likely to be held between 12 and 18 January, 2026, after 8 long years, says Shiv Sena. The Supreme Court of India has directed the State Election Commission to complete all local body elections by 31 January 2026, as the elections have been due since 2022.
