Thane Fire: A fire broke out in an electric duct of an 18-storey residential building in Thane West early Tuesday morning, leaving two people injured and forcing the evacuation of dozens of residents. According to the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the fire broke out at around 4:14 AM at the Milan Hill Building near Shastri Nagar Naka in Shastri Nagar.
Emergency teams from the Disaster Management Cell and the fire brigade were rushed to the site. Speaking to news agency PTI, an official stated, "We received a call about the fire at 4:14 a.m. The fire broke out in an electrical pipe located between the 10th and 13th floors, causing heavy smoke to fill the building."
The electrical pipe between the 10th and 13th floors was damaged, with the fire charring the main entrances of two flats on the 10th floor.
As heavy smoke filled the corridors, approximately 60 to 70 residents became trapped inside the building, including four individuals stranded on the 10th floor.
Over 70 residents were safely evacuated by the fire brigade personnel and disaster management staff. However, two residents sustained severe burn injuries. According to a Mid-Day report, 74-year-old Ruchira Deshmukh suffered burns to both hands and was rushed to Jupiter Hospital, while 62-year-old Vivek Pradhan was admitted to Bethany Hospital with burns to his hand and leg.
According to the officials, the fire was brought under control by around 5:30 AM on Tuesday. While the situation is now stable, the exact cause of the fire is not yet known. Police officials have launched an investigation into the matter to determine the exact cause of the fire.
