The Latur Police on Friday arrested four accused for raping a HIV-infected girl for over two years at a children's shelter home in the city, the officials said.
According to the information, she was also forced to undergo an abortion when she became pregnant. In her complaint, filed in Dhoki police station in her native Dharashiv district of Maharashtra, the girl has alleged that she was raped on multiple occasions from July 13, 2023,to July 23 this year.
She claimed that the repeated offence took place at Sevalay, a home for HIV-infected children in Hasegaon in Latur, the official said.
The official added that the girl has alleged that she was raped four times by an employee of the children's shelter and was threatened not to disclose it. According to the girl, the shelter home management also didn't pay heed to her complaints
The officials said, "As per her complaint, the child was at the institution for the past two years. She was allegedly raped by an employee of the children's home four times. He also threatened her to not disclose the ordeal to anyone. The institution's management did not help her and even tore up a letter she had marked for officials and had dropped into a complaint box".
Once she fell ill, she was taken to a hospital where tests revealed she was four months pregnant. Following this, the accused got a doctor to perform an abortion procedure without her consent, the official added.
The Dhoki Police has booked six individuals, including the founder and superintendent of the institution, the employee who raped her and the doctor who performed the abortion procedure, the official said.

Talking about the case, Latur Superintendent of Police (SP) Amol Tambe said that the case was then transferred to the Ausa police station, in whose jurisdiction the alleged incidents took place. The Ausa Police arrested four individuals in the case. The Latur SP identified the four as Sevalay founder Ravi Bapatle, the shelter home superintendent Rachna Bapatle, employees Amit Mahamuni and Pooja Waghmare.
