Maharashtra Local Body Polls: The upcoming local body election results have created a political buzz in the state. However, in Solapur’s Akluj town, the result is not about who wins or who loses but that of a prestige fight between the BJP and the NCP (Sharad Pawar) candidate.

According to NDTV, two friends, both local party workers, supporting one candidate each from the BJP and the NCP (SP), have agreed to give the other a Royal Enfield bike, whoever wins the local poll body elections.

A ‘Royal’ Enfield Bet Over BJP vs NCP Political Tussle

Among the two friends, Machhindra Karnavar is supporting NCP (SP) candidate Reshma Adgale, while his friend Dada Tarang has placed his bet on BJP’s Pooja Kothamayar.

In a video clip which captured the bet, the friends could be heard saying, quoted by NDTV, “There will be a Bullet motorcycle here on December 21st. Whoever wins the municipal council head seat will give the bike to the other."

This was not the first time that such a bet was made. During the Lok Sabha elections last year, a similar bet was made by the BJP and NCP(SP) workers.

Maharashtra Local Body Polls

Voting for the first phase of the Maharashtra Local Body Polls took place on December 2. The results of the same will be declared on December 21. The results were scheduled to be declared on December 3.

However, the Bombay High Court had directed the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) to postpone the counting of votes for all the local body polls from the earlier December 3 scheduled date.

The polls are expected to be a litmus test for the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) political future after a landslide victory of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the November 2024 assembly elections, thereby securing 235 seats out of the total 238 seats.
