The Maharashtra government has revealed that at least 12,431 men received benefits under its flagship Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, a scheme intended for women. The program, run by the Women and Child Development Department, provides Rs 1,500 per month to women aged 21-65 from families earning less than Rs 2.5 lakh annually. Launched on 28 June 2024, the scheme aims to financially empower eligible women through direct benefit transfers (DBT).
According to an RTI response, a total of 12,431 men and 77,980 women were wrongly disbursed Rs 1,500 each for 13 months and 12 months, respectively. This amounts to approximately Rs 24.24 crore for men, Rs 140.28 crore for women, and a combined total of at least Rs 164.52 crore.

The state government has mandated that e-KYC (Know Your Customer) must be completed within two months to continue receiving benefits under the scheme.
Steps To Complete Online KYC For Ladki Bahin Yojana
Step 1: Visit the Official Portal
Go to the official Ladki Bahin Yojana website:https://ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in
Step 2: Open KYC Form
Click on the e-KYC banner on the homepage to access the e-KYC form.
Step 3: Fill in Details
Enter your Aadhaar number and Captcha code, give consent for Aadhaar authentication, and click Send OTP. Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and click Submit.
Step 4: Submit and Verify
Submit the form and wait for verification to complete.
How To Apply For Ladki Bahin Yojana Online
Step 1: Visit the official Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana website.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Applicant Login’ option.
Step 3: Click on ‘Create Account’.
Step 4: Fill out the application and click the ‘Signup’ button.
Step 5: Log in to the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana website using your mobile number, password, and captcha code.
Step 6: Click on the ‘Application of Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’.
Step 7: Enter your Aadhaar number and click ‘Verify’.
Step 8: Enter the required details on the application, upload the documents and click ‘Submit’. You will receive the application ID via SMS.
Documents Required To Apply For The Scheme
1. Recent photograph of the beneficiary woman.
2. Aadhaar card as the primary identification document.
3. Domicile certificate, or if unavailable, alternative documents such as ration card (issued before 15 years), voter ID (issued before 15 years), birth certificate, or school leaving certificate; for women born abroad, husband’s relevant documents can be submitted.
4. Income proof, including income certificate if needed (not required for Yellow or Orange ration card holders; required for White ration card holders or those without a ration card), and marriage certificate if the woman’s name is not on the ration card.
5. Aadhaar-linked bank account details and an affirmation letter.
Who All Are Eligible For The Scheme
1. The applicant must be a female resident of Maharashtra.
2. Age should be between 21 and 65 years.
3. The applicant must have a bank account linked with Aadhaar.
4. The annual family income should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.
5. Outsourced employees, voluntary workers, and contract workers earning up to Rs 2.5 lakh are also eligible.
6. The applicant can be a married, widowed, divorced, abandoned, destitute, or unmarried woman in the family.
Currently, approximately 2.41 crore women receive benefits under the scheme, costing the government nearly Rs 3,700 crore per month. The scheme was launched in June 2024, four months before the Assembly elections. In August 2024, the government announced an outlay of Rs 199.81 for the scheme’s publicity campaign.
