Along with festive markets, Gorakhpur Junction is seeing a surge in activity ahead of Diwali, thanks to the ‘One Station One Product’ (OSOP) initiative. On platforms one and two, stalls are selling terracotta diyas (earthen lamps), kalash (ceremonial pots), and idols of Lakshmi-Ganesh, attracting passengers looking for traditional decorative items.

Tuhin Srivastava, operator of a terracotta stall on platform two, said that passenger interest in terracotta artefacts increases during festivals. “Most passengers buy small decorative items, diyas, and Lakshmi-Ganesh idols,” he noted.

In addition to these, the stall also sells tortoise figures, earrings, necklaces, and other decorative items, with prices aligned to market rates. Daily sales range between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500, with plans to stock products from Self-Help Groups in the coming days.

Pankaj Kumar Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway, explained that the two model terracotta stalls at Gorakhpur Junction aim to promote the city’s terracotta products and support local artisans. The OSOP scheme, initiated by the Ministry of Railways, provides national recognition to regional products while offering employment opportunities to potters, artisans, weavers, farmers, and small business owners.
