A Maharashtra school teacher thrashed his 17-year-old daughter repeatedly with a stick over scoring low in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) mock test. The class 12 student, Sadhna Bhonsle from Maharashtra's Sangli was seriously injured due to the beating and later died in a hospital on Friday.

The father Dhondiram Bhonsle, who has reportedly confessed to beating his daughter, has been arrested.

Sadhana scored 92.60 per cent marks in her Class 10 board exams. She suffered head injuries in the assault and was taken to Ushakal Hospital in Sangli. Unfortunately, she succumbed before she could get treatment.

"The girl's mother had filed a complaint at the police station on June 22, stating that her husband had beaten her up due to low marks, resulting in her death at the hospital. The accused father has been arrested and is in police custody till June 24. The case is under investigation," said police, as quoted by an NDTV report.

In another update, Maharashtra's rainfall activity is expected to decrease this week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with light to moderate showers expected in most cities between June 24 and June 26.

However, the ghat areas of Pune, Nashik, and Kolhapur are expected to see heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
