Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray awkwardly ignored each other as they "crossed paths" for the first time since split-off of Shiv Sena in 2022. Both Shinde and Thackeray had participated in the farewell ceremony of Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Ambadas Danve as leader of the opposition. In a viral video, some of the leaders are seen asking Thackeray to sit besides the deputy chief minister; however, he chooses to sit several seats away. While Shinde was seen fixing his spectacles, Thackeray could be seen greeting other leaders as they faced each other.
Earlier, while campaigning for the state legislative election in 2024, Uddhav had stated that Shinde had illegally split Shiv Sena in 2023. He further stated that he took the step due to his desire to become the chief minister of the state. However, Shinde pointed out that he chose another path for himself after Thackeray left his ideology for political gains.
Earlier, while addressing the house, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on a lighter note, invited Uddhav to join Mahayuti by stating that the BJP is not going out of power soon. However, Udhhav later clarified that the remarks from the chief minister were on a lighter note and should not be taken seriously. The invitation from Fadnavis came ahead of the much-hyped civic polls amid the ongoing row over the Marathi language.
While speaking during the farewell ceremony of Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve, Fadnavis stated that the Shiv Sena leader has always been a supporter of right-wing politics. "Look Uddhav-ji, there is no scope of (our) going there (in the opposition) till 2029... But if you want to come over here, then consider it... it depends on you... it can be considered," Fadnavis stated while addressing Thackeray. "Ambadas Danve may be anywhere (party or opposition) but his real thoughts are right wing," the chief minister added.
