Maharashtra News: A shocking incident has surfaced from Maharashtra, where a 19-year-old college student allegedly died by suicide after a group of people thrashed him in a local train over speaking Hindi.

According to his father, the mental stress from the incident may have pushed his son to take his life. The Kolsewadi Police have registered an accident death report, and an investigation is underway.

What Led The 19-Year-Old Student To Take This Step?

Arnav Jitendra Khaire, a first-year science student at Kelkar College in Mulund, was on his way to the college on the Ambernath-Kalyan local train on the morning of November 18 when a minor argument reportedly broke out between him and a group of passengers, India Today reported.

According to his father, Jitendra Khaire, 4-5 men allegedly thrashed Arnav and questioned him for not speaking Marathi. Arnav reportedly got off the train at Thane station, took another train back to Mulund, and then returned home.

After reaching home, Arnav spoke to his father in the afternoon, expressing his fear about the incident. He reportedly told his father that he was feeling ‘extremely anxious’. Though his father tried to reassure him, Arnav’s voice reflected his distress, the report added.

When Jitendra returned from his work in the evening, he found Arnav hanging from a dupatta. Arnav was immediately rushed to the Rukminibai Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 9:05 PM.

In his statement to the police, Arnav’s father said that his son took the extreme step due to fear and mental stress after the alleged assault over the language row. The Kolsewadi Police have registered an accident death case and launched an investigation. The Railway Police have also been informed and efforts to underway to obtain the CCTV footage of the incident.
