A 15-year-old girl from Dombivali in Maharashtra's Thane district was locked up in a house for two months by a man known to her family. In two months she was she was repeatedly raped, compelled to have an abortion, and forced into prostitution. In the connection four individuals including a woman have been arrested but the primary suspect is still missing, police said.

The girl's suffering came to light after workers discovered her plight. This led to the Tilak Nagar police raiding a home in rural Dombivali and rescuing her, an official stated.

"The victim's mother sells food and she came in contact with the main accused, who sells spices and was known to her family. When she had a fight with her mother after her Class X exams and walked out of the house, the main accused cajoled her into coming with him," he said.

"He then confined her for two months and sexually assaulted her. When she got pregnant, he took her to another individual for an abortion. She was then kept at a couple's house, where she was forced into prostitution," the official said.

While the girl's family was looking for her, the main accused misled them, claiming he had seen her in the city but that she was upset and wouldn't come back. Her relatives only went to the police two months later, an official said. After the survivor told her story to the police, four people, including a woman and her husband, were arrested. However, the main accused is still at large, the official added.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dombivli) Suhas Hemade informed PTI that a case has been registered under the section Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 65(1) (rape in certain cases), 88 (causing miscarriage), 143 (trafficking of person), and 144 (exploitation of trafficked person). Additionally, provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act have been invoked. Hemade added that police teams are continuing their investigation into the crime.

In a separate incident,  A 30-year-old woman and her 19-year-old "boyfriend" have been arrested in Malvani, Mumbai, Maharashtra. They are implicated in the alleged rape and murder of the woman's two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Police reported on Monday that a horrific incident occurred in Mumbai's Malvani area, where a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a teenager, reportedly in her mother's presence. The details were revealed in a report by the ANI news agency.

Police initiated an investigation after receiving information from the hospital regarding the death of a two-and-a-half-year-old child. Medical examinations confirmed the child died from asphyxia due to shock and had been sexually assaulted.

Following a preliminary investigation that implicated the child's mother and the male accused, both individuals were arrested.

A case has been registered under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 70 (gang rape), 64 (rape), 65(2) (rape on a child under twelve), 66 (rape causing death or persistent vegetative state), 103, 238, and 3(5) of the BNS, along with Sections 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault), and 21 (attempt to commit offence) of the POCSO Act.
