Maharashtra Politics: A political row erupted in Maharashtra after the Shiv Sena (UBT) registered a police complaint after four of its corporators in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) allegedly went untraceable. The case was registered amid the reports suggesting that the "missing" corporators could extend their support to Shinde Sena in their number game. In its complaint, Shiv Sena (UBT) stated that the sudden disappearance of corporators is a threat to democratic values and public trust. While two of them are likely to support the Shinde Sena, the other two might join back Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navniran Sena (MNS), as they contested the polls on the UBT ticket due to the alliance.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut stated that the missing corporators were elected on Shiv Sena (UBT), but they switched sides within hours of the victory. “We filed a complaint with the police as our corporators are missing. We will put up posters in the KDMC. They were elected on our symbol. They are traitors and chose a different path 24 hours after their victory,” Raut stated.
Raj Thackeray's party has also extended its support to Shinde Sena, leading to disagreements within the Thackeray brothers' alliance. However, MNS leaders stated that the corporators would have joined Shinde Sena if the party did not agree to their demands, reported the Hindustan Times. UBT leader Sanjay Raut had earlier clarified that the decision was taken by the local leaders of MNS, and Raj Thackeray was not aware of it.
UBT district chief Sharad Shivraj Patil lodged an FIR at Kolsewadi police station, demanding an investigation into the missing persons case. "The phones of the two corporators are switched off. Their sudden disappearance is not limited to personal security but is related to democratic values, law and order and public trust. The possibility of pressure, fraud, kidnapping or other criminal nature behind this incident cannot be ruled out," Patil said in his complaint.
In the recently concluded KDMC elections, Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party with 53 seats, followed by ally BJP with 50 seats. UBT won 11 seats, while MNS won 5 seats.
