Maharashtra Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert (very heavy rain) for the ghat areas of central Maharashtra till July 16 amid heavy rain that is lashing Mumbai and its neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar, and Raigad.

According to the Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre's five-day prediction, Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Sindhudurg, and Ratnagiri districts may experience severe to extremely heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday.

Weather In Other Southern Regions

The IMD report states that very heavy rainfall is expected in the Gujarat Region till July 16, over Konkan and Goa until July 16, over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on July 14–15, and over Saurashtra and Kutch on July 16 and 17.

The monsoon trough is in its usual location, extending to lower troposphere levels. It is projected to move south of its typical location beginning Sunday. At mean sea level, the offshore trough stretches along the shores of Maharashtra and northern Kerala. A cyclonic circulation exists in the lower and medium troposphere across north Gujarat, as well as in the middle troposphere over the west-central Bay of Bengal off the coast of Andhra Pradesh.

IMD Five-Day Weather Forecast

Over the next five days, there will likely be isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal; scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, Marathwada, and Rayalaseema; and thunderstorms and lightning over Konkan and Goa, central Maharashtra, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Gujarat state, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of Konkan and Goa, as well as isolated areas of central Maharashtra, Gujarat State, Kerala and Mahe, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka over the next five days; isolated heavy rainfall in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh from July 13-17; Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on July 13, 15, and 16; Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from July 13-15, and Marathwada from July 14-16. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected across Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on July 13; Chhattisgarh on July 13-14; and Telangana, Marathwada, and Vidarbha on July 15.
