Maharashtra Weather: Residents are waiting for the complete return of the southwest monsoon after it reached an extended halt on May 26 after a promising early beginning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that beginning on June 13, monsoon activity will return to the peninsular area, bringing with it the first extensive rainfall since the earliest rains.

Mumbai's temperature was 29 degrees Celsius, humidity was 75%, precipitation was 5%, and winds were 14 kmph as of 9 am on Monday, June 10.

The IMD forecasted a partly overcast sky with one or two rain or thundershower episodes. It is anticipated that temperatures will be between 27 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius.

According to a Hindustan Times report, IMD scientist Sushma Nair noted that the monsoon naturally fluctuates between active and dormant phases, with the Indian peninsular area presently experiencing one of these inactive spells. However, she stated that this phase is expected to end by Thursday, with new rain set to return.

“A trough extending from North Tamil Nadu to the South Maharashtra coast across interior Karnataka will bring in the rains and is expected to intensify further in the coming days," said Nair.

An orange alert has been issued for Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and the Ghats of Kolhapur, warning of severe to very heavy rainfall, in accordance with the IMD's forecast.

On June 13, a yellow notice was issued for Thane, Raigad, and Pune, suggesting the possibility of thunderstorms and significant rain in those regions.

Rainfall accumulation has been quite low since June 1. Both the Santacruz observatory and Colaba have reported 87.5 mm and 82.4 mm, respectively, below the seasonal normal.
