Heavy rainfall continued to lash several districts of Maharashtra on Monday, bringing cities like Mumbai and Pune to their knees. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 15 out of 36 districts today and .

For other areas, including Pune, Satara, Nashik and Nanded, among others, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places for today (August 18) and tomorrow (August 19).

Mumbai Weather

CM Devendra Fadnavis said that the city received 177 mm (17.7 cm) of rainfall in a period of 6-8 hours on Monday. Several areas, including Veera Desai Road, Andheri West and Matunga, were flooded with rainwater.

Due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging, several flights were delayed and diverted. As per a report by The Times of India, 9 flights aborted landing and performed sudden go-around due to inclement weather. One flight was diverted due to poor visibility. Moreover, local train services on both the Western and Central railway were hit.  

Due to the advserse weather conditions, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced closure of schools across the city.
