Maharashtra Weather: After several days of intense heat and humidity, Mumbaikars can look forward to some relief with pre-monsoon shower forecast this week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple districts in Maharashtra, including Mumbai and its neighbouring areas like Thane and Palghar.

On May 5, the IMD forecast indicated that the city and its suburbs would experience partly cloudy skies, with light rain or thundershowers expected in the evening or early morning. The temperatures are predicted to reach a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.

Maharashtra Weather Alert: Rain Likely In Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Pune

The weather has been changing significantly across the state. Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in regions such as Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Pune, and Satara. Meanwhile, dry weather is expected in Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Sindhudurg, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Beed, Dharashiv. Gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, are likely in parts of Mumbai, Raigad, and Thane, while stronger winds of 40-50 kmph are forecasted in Beed, Chandrapur, and other areas.

Why Is It Raining In Maharashtra

The IMD noted that a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan is influencing weather patterns in Maharashtra, Karnataka and southern Tamil Nadu. This system has activated a low-pressure area, leading to increased humidity and heat across the state.

Sushma Nair, a scientist at IMD Mumbai, explained that western disturbances are approaching the region, pulling in moisture that could result in rainfall. She stated, "Although the rains may not completely alleviate the humidity, they will provide some relief from the heat."

Residents should prepare for the possibility of unseasonal rain over the coming days. The IMD's weather forecast indicates that rainfall is likely to continue into May 7, affecting multiple regions within the state.
