Mumbai News: A long-standing dispute between two families in Mumbai’s Ganpat Patil Nagar slum, located in Dahisar (West), turned violent on Sunday evening, leaving three men dead and four others injured.
The two families, the Guptas and the Sheikhs have been involved in a rivalry since 2022, when both sides filed complaints against each other over minor arguments. Police said tensions finally erupted around 4:30 PM on Sunday, when Hamid Sheikh (49), who was allegedly drunk, passed by a coconut stall owned by Ram Gupta (50) and the two began arguing.

The verbal exchange quickly escalated. Members from both families called their relatives to the spot, which led to a physical fight involving sharp weapons. Ram Gupta and his three sons – Amar, Arvind (23) and Amit – confronted Hamid Sheikh and his sons, Armaan and Hasan, near Gali No. 14 in Ganpat Patil Nagar.
During the clash, Ram Gupta, his son Arvind and Hamid Sheikh sustained serious injuries and were declared dead shortly after. The four others – Amar, Amit, Armaan and Hasan – were also injured, with some in critical condition.
The bodies have been sent to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivli (West) for post-mortem examinations. One of the injured, who is also an accused, is currently under police watch in the hospital.
According to a Times Of India report, Police from the MHB station have launched an investigation and are treating the case as a cross-murder. Ram Gupta’s sons Amar and Amit, who are believed to be key suspects, are currently missing.
Additional security has been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest. Police officials are questioning witnesses and reviewing past complaints to piece together the chain of events.
The investigation is ongoing and efforts are on to trace the absconding accused.
