Mumbai-Goa Highway Accident:In a tragic road accident in Maharashtra, five people were killed and one person was seriously injured after a car fell into the Jagbudi River on the Mumbai-Goa highway on Saturday. The driver who reportedly got injured in the accident is undergoing treatment at a local hospital. All of them were reportedly going from Mumbai to Devrukh to attend a funeral. The officials stated that while the exact reason behind the accident is not known yet, the locals stated that the driver lost control due to overspeeding.

One of the officials stated that the accident occurred near Khed around 5.45 am, when the vehicle first hit the divider and fell into the dry river bed of the Jagbudi River. They further stated that the car was heading towards Devrukh town from Nallasopara in Palghar district. While providing details, he stated that the deceased were identified as Mitali Vivek More (43), Megha Paradkar (22), Saurabh Paradkar (22), Nihar More (19) and Shreyas Sawant (23).

He further stated that officials from the Khed police station rushed to the spot, and a rescue operation was conducted. As the river was dry, the vehicle crashed into boulders, killing some of the occupants on the spot, he said, adding that the injured were undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ratnagiri. A case is being registered at Khed police station, and further probe is underway, the official was quoted as saying by PTI.
Earlier on May 18, a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus fell into a 20-foot-deep gorge near Valparai leaving at least 30 injured. The accident took place near the Kavers Estate area along the winding mountain roads of the Valparai ghat section. The officials stated that 72 members were onboard and the bus was going to Vaparai from Tiruppur, when the accident took place.
