Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) stated that the mandatory NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued six months in advance to inform all stakeholders, allowing airlines ample time to adjust their flight schedules and plan operations accordingly.
MIAL announced that scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance work on both runways—09/27 and 14/32—will be carried out between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM. During this period, both the primary runway (09/27) and the secondary runway (14/32) will be temporarily non-operational.
MIAL further said that this annual pre-monsoon maintenance is essential for maintaining the integrity and longevity of the airport’s airside infrastructure, During the closure, specialists will inspect the runway surface for signs of wear and tear, addressing preventive measures against waterlogging to ensure safe landings and take-offs throughout the season.
At the same time in 2024, on May 9, both runways at Mumbai International Airport were closed for a six-hour period to carry out pre-monsoon maintenance work. The runways were closed from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
"As part of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport's (CSMIA) monsoon contingency plan, the primary runway 09/27 and the secondary runway 14/32 will remain temporarily non-operational on 9th May 2024, for pre-monsoon maintenance and repair work," the release said.
A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued in December to inform airlines and other stakeholders, allowing them to reschedule flights in advance.
The two intersecting runways, the primary runway (09/27) and the secondary runway (14/32), remained non-operational from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
