Mumbai Airport: In a significant step toward improving last-mile connectivity, a dedicated foot overbridge (FOB) directly connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s Terminal 2 (T2) with Mumbai Metro Line 3 was inaugurated on Saturday. The bridge provides seamless access between the underground CSMIA Metro Station on Line 3 and the airport terminal.

Officials stated that the bridge was constructed without interfering with ongoing infrastructure projects in the area.

Key Details About Mumbai Airport's New Foot Overbridge:

- The steel structure spans 88 meters in length, 4.3 meters in width, and 3 meters in height. According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the bridge is positioned 23 meters above the under-construction Metro Line 7A, requiring meticulous planning and strict safety measures during construction.

- The 12.69 km metro stretch includes 10 stations: Aarey Colony JVLR (the only at-grade station), SEEPZ, Andheri, Marol Naka, CSMIA T2, Sahar Road, CSMIA T1, Santacruz, Bandra Colony, and BKC. The new FOB connects directly from the T2 terminal to the metro network at this phase.

- Also known as the Aqua Line, Metro Line 3 is Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor, running 33.5 km from Cuffe Parade (Colaba) to Aarey, with 27 stations (26 underground and one at grade).

- The FOB has reduced the walking distance for air passengers from 450 meters to 118 meters, making airport transfers more convenient. Passengers will no longer need to cross busy roads with luggage, reducing dependence on private vehicles and cabs.

- MMRDA officials noted that the project required advanced engineering and careful execution due to the height and active metro construction below. “Meticulous planning was essential to ensure accuracy and safety at every step,” an official told the Indian Expre.
