Mumbai News: A unique business idea outside the US Consulate in Mumbai is now getting national attention. It is not a high-end startup or a tech breakthrough, but a simple solution offered by an autorickshaw driver that is proving both smart and successful.
The man, whose name remains unknown, has turned a common issue faced by US visa applicants into a steady income stream—reportedly making Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakh a month. The story was recently shared by Lenskart’s Product Leader Rahul Rupani on LinkedIn, where it has gone viral.

The US Consulate strictly prohibits any kind of bags inside its premises. With no official locker service nearby, visitors often find themselves stuck outside, unsure of what to do with their belongings before their appointments.
Rupani, in his post, explained how he encountered this problem. Security stopped him at the gate and he was told to leave his bag outside. With no options in sight, an autorickshaw driver approached him and offered a solution: “Sir, bag de do. Safe rakhunga, mera roz ka hai. Rs 1,000 charge hai (Sir, give me the bag. I’ll keep it safe. I do this daily. Just Rs 1,000)."

For many visa applicants, paying the fee is better than risking a missed appointment. The driver reportedly handles 20 to 30 bags a day, which translates to a daily earning of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000.
But this is more than just a one-man job. According to the post, the driver has partnered with a local police officer and uses safe locker facilities nearby. His auto simply acts as a pick-up point. Once passengers trust him, their bags are securely stored elsewhere.
This method, which runs on mutual trust and quick service, shows the power of simple business ideas. Rupani praised the driver’s strategy, calling it “raw and powerful entrepreneurship.”
