Mumbai News: The bus services provided by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) will soon charge an increased fare from the passengers, as the corporation  is preparing to implement a revised fare structure. The new fare system is likely to come into effect this week as soon as the Mumbai Regional Transport Authority (MRTA) provides approval to the proposal.

According to a report by Times Now, quoting officials, the BEST Committee and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have already provided approval to the revised structure. The fare revision will be implemented immediately after approval from MRTA.

According to an official release from the BEST, the main goal of the fare revision is to rationalise fare structures and provide enhanced benefits to specific passenger groups, including schoolchildren, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities.

Before this, BEST had restructured fares in 2019, wherein prices were reduced and the concept of half tickets for children between the age group of 5-12 was scrapped. The Committee has reinforced the half ticket for children in the same age group.
