Mumbai Boat Capsize: As many as 13 died and 101 others were rescued after a Navy speed boat collided with a ferry off the coast of Mumbai on Wednesday, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said. The dead include ten civilians and three Navy personnel, Fadnavis informed reporters in Nagpur. According to Navy information, there have been 13 deaths as of 7.30 PM, he added.
A viral video of the tragedy reveals that the speed boat circled the Neelkamal ferry before colliding with it while it was traveling to Elephanta Islands, a well-liked tourist spot close to Mumbai.

A local official asserted that the speedboat was a Navy property, but the Navy did not confirm this.
With 11 Navy vessels, three Marine Police boats, and a Coast Guard boat stationed in the region, the Navy and Coast Guard began a large rescue effort, according to a defense official.
According to the official, four helicopters participated in the search and rescue mission.

The incident happened close to Kunja, Uran at around 4 PM.
Taking to X, CM Fadnavis said, “We have received reports of an accident involving the boat Nilkamal, which was heading towards Elephanta. Boats from the Navy, Coast Guard, Port and Police teams have been immediately dispatched for assistance. We are in constant touch with the district and police administration and fortunately most of the citizens have been rescued. However, rescue operations are still underway. Orders have been given to the district administration to deploy all the necessary machinery for the rescue operation."
Searches are being conducted for seven or eight passengers who have not yet been located, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the Nagpur state assembly.
According to Fadnavis, the speedboat, which is reportedly owned by the Coast Guard or Navy, lost control and collided with the ship.
