Mumbai Building Collapse: Six killed and five rescued after a slab from the top floor of a four-storey building in Mumbai's Kalyan crashed on the lower floors during flooring work on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
The slab at the fourth-floor of the Saptashrungi Building collapsed at around 2:15 PM and the debris fell to the lower floors. The structure was located in Mangalaragho Nagar area in Kalyan East.

According to a senior police inspector, the slab from the fourth floor had collapsed to the ground floor. The deceased, that included four women and a two-year-old child, were identified as Namaswi Shrikant Shelar (2), Pramila Kalcharan Sahu (56), Sunita Neelanchal Sahu (38), Sushila Narayan Gujar (78), Venkat Bhima Chavan (42) and Sujata Manoj Wadi (38).
The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, officials said.
Emergency response teams from the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) and the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation's Fire Department are working hard to remove the debris and look for any more victims.

A case has also been filed by the police and more investigation into the matter is underway.
Meanwhile, Kalyan SDO Vishwas Digambar Gujar says, "On the fourth floor of Shri Saptashringi building in Kalyan, flooring work was going on. During the renovation work, the slab of the fourth floor collapsed, taking with it slabs of all the subsequent lower floors. 11 people were trapped in the rubble..."
He said that five people have been rescued so far and there were 52 families who were living in the building.
"This building will soon be demolished because its condition has deteriorated with time... Alternate arrangements for the families will be made..." he added.
CM Fadnavis Announces Rx-Gratia
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis reacted to the tragedy and said, "My humble tributes to them. We stand strongly with the families in these difficult times. The rescue operations at the site has been completed, and the Municipal Commissioner was personally present at the location. 5 individuals were injured in the incident and are currently under treatment at the hospital. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation, and the injured are in a stable condition. I pray for their speedy recovery."
