Mumbai Mayor Post:  BJP leader Ritu Tawde has been nominated for the post of Mumbai mayor from the Mahayuti alliance. She is the corporator from Ward 132, Ghatkopar. Besides, Shiv Sena's Sanjay Shankar Ghadi has been named for the Deputy post, who is a corporator from Magathane.

Tawde was a Congress leader till 2012, before switching to the BJP. She has won Ward 132 (Ghatkopar) for the second time. Although what goes in her favour is her re-election from a Gujarati-majority area despite being a Maratha community face.

BJP leader Amit Satam declared Tawde’s name as the Mayor nominee, while Ghadi's name for the deputy post was announced by Shiv Sena leader Rahul Shewale at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters.

Four Shiv Sena Corporators To Serve At Deputy Post In 5 Years

Shiv Sena Secretary Sanjay More, in a statement, said that Ghadi will serve at the post of Deputy Mayor for 15 months, as Eknath-led Shiv Sena aims to give an opportunity to four of its corporators to serve at the post by splitting the 5-year term into 4.

Mayor Election To Take Place On Feb 11

The elections for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be held on February 11, 2026. Nominations are expected to be filed in the coming days, with the election process to be overseen by the municipal commissioner as per BMC rules.

BJP Emerges As Single Largest Party In 227-BMC

In the 227-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, while Shiv Sena won 29 seats. With combined strength, the ruling alliance stands at 118 corporators, clearing the halfway mark of 114 corporators to secure the Mayor post.
