Ghooskhor Pandat Row: With nationwide protests against the film's supposedly derogatory title, the controversy surrounding Netflix film, Ghooskhor Pandat, has also spilled onto the streets. The movie's lead actor Manoj Bajpayee, and writer-producer Neeraj Pandey's effigies were set on fire in numerous locations. The protesters condemended the targeting against Hindus and Brahmins.
Ghooskhor Pandat has been criticised of insulting the Brahmin community, associating the word 'ghooskhor' (corrupt) with Pandat, a slang name for Brahmins or Hindu priests. The effigies of the actor, director Ritesh Shah, and Neeraj Pandey were set ablaze by protesters.
The demonstrators at Subhash Chowk in Prayagraj on Friday alleged that the Ghooskhor Pandat creators made it 'with the intention of targeting Hindus and Brahmins' and called for a ban on Netflix, the streaming service where it will be available.
The Brahmin community in Indore protested the movie by setting fire to effigies of the movie's star, Manoj Bajpayee, and Netflix. Parshuram Sena members threatened to blacken Manoj and Neeraj Pandey's faces if the movie was not banned, as per ANI.

About Ghooskhor Pandat Controversy
Manoj Bajpayee plays Pandat, a corrupt police officer in the thriller Ghooskhor Pandat. To address this, Neeraj Pandey released a statement on Friday, adding that the movie is not anti-communal. He said that all of the movie's promotional materials, including a teaser for the first look, were being removed. Later, the Bharatiya Janata Party asserted that the Center had ordered this action.
The film's producers were also charged with 'hurting religious and caste sentiments' in a formal complaint filed in Lucknow. Ghooskhor Pandat was supposed to release on Netflix, later this year. The date of release has not yet been disclosed so far.
