Mumbai News: A 14-year-old girl and her mother are recovering in hospital after a violent attack inside their home in Mumbai. Police said the assault was carried out by the girl’s father, Hanumant Sonawale, who allegedly entered his daughter’s room early in the morning and slit her neck while she slept. When his wife rushed to help, he attacked her as well.

The teenager received five stitches on her neck and both victims are undergoing treatment at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. According to investigators, Sonawale was drunk at the time of the incident and had argued with his wife, Rajshree, shortly before the attack. Officers said the accused had been unemployed, addicted to alcohol and often picked fights at home. He also reportedly accused his wife of having an extramarital relationship and frequently questioned her character, as per a NDTV report.

Police believe tension escalated further after Rajshree began consulting a lawyer regarding a divorce petition. A case of attempted murder and domestic violence has been registered against Sonawale, who is now in custody.

In separate news, The Andheri Police have booked real estate firm M/s Ranbir Real Estate & Developers and its directors, Jaykumar and Suyash Gupta, for allegedly duping 18 investors of Rs 31.26 crore. The complaint states that the Guptas promised 18 per cent annual returns for funding a redevelopment project in Jogeshwari East.

Vapi-based businessman Mahesh Doshi invested Rs 8.26 crore in 2021 and received interest until September 2024, after which payments stopped. Doshi later learnt that several others, including investor Kirit Desai, faced similar losses. A case under IPC sections for cheating and criminal breach of trust has been filed, and the EOW is now investigating.
