A massive fire broke out at a complex in Mumbai's Bhiwandi area on Saturday morning. The visuals from the site show huge cloud of smoke emanating from the building while blazes were ravazing. The fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the dousing operation was underway. During the firefighting operation, a fireman was injured. He sustained a fracture in the leg and was rushed to the hospital. 

The incident is reported to have taken place at a plywood factory in the Mani Surat Complex in Bhiwandi. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.

The officials informed that they had received a call about a fire at 4:30 AM on Saturday in a four-storey factory. After the call, the Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation deployed at least four fire tenders. So far, the Bhiwandi civic body has not requested additional assistance from the neighbouring civic bodies for the ongoing dousing operation.

Providing details about the fire incident and dousing operation, Rajesh Pawar, chief fire officer of the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC), said that the injured firefighter has been admitted to a hospital with leg fractures, and his condition is stable.

He further emphasised that the fire quickly engulfed the structure due to the highly combustible stock of plywood stored inside, and local fire teams, along with the disaster management cell, rushed to the scene after receiving the alert.

Pawar said, "This is a difficult operation. The fire cannot be fully contained for at least another day, as the godown is packed with plywood. The fire load is massive."

Woman dies in Andheri fire

Meanwhile, a woman died while six others were hospitalised after a fire broke out in a residential building in Andheri on Saturday, as per the officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

According to officials, the fire erupted during the early hours of the day at the Broke Land Building near Ashok Academy Lane in Lokhandwala, Andheri (West). Reported at 2:39 am, the fire was declared a Level-1 fire at 3:13 am.
