Mumbai-Goa Expressway: The 466-kilometre Mumbai-Goa Expressway will be ready by May-June 2025 with its four-lane roadway, reducing travel time between the two cities by half. Currently, it takes 12 to 13 hours to drive from Mumbai to Sindhudurg, but once the highway is completed, the trip will be shortened to 6 hours.
The planned expressway will run from Panvel in Navi Mumbai to Sindhudurg, via Raigad and Ratnagiri.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the state government-led National Highway Public Works Department (NH PWD) are working together to create the project, which will feature 14 interchanges for easier access.
However, the project has been delayed due to the continuing construction of bypasses, underpasses, and flyovers at Mangaon, Indapur, Pali, Lanja, Kolad, and Chiplun. Despite these setbacks, officials have verified that major roadways will be repaired before the monsoon season, according to The Times of India.
The project's revised cost has increased to Rs 7,300 crore from the initial estimate of Rs 3,500 crore because of the delays.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' PWD is widening the remaining section, while the NHAI is developing the 84-kilometre length between Panvel and Indapur.
When completed, the highway will serve as a vital conduit for trade, tourism, and local enterprises along the western coast in addition to improving communication between Mumbai and Goa.
The Mumbai-Goa Highway, which is soon to be completed, is expected to revolutionise both travel and business.
