Mumbai Local Train Update: The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has reportedly proposed new rail corridors along the existing lines to separate the local train rail network from the long-distance trains. The authority proposed rail corridors along the existing Kalyan-Kasara and Kalyan-Karjat corridors to separate the network meant for local trains. The officials stated that MRVC has sent the proposal to the Maharashtra government to build two new rail lines to improve the regional connectivity and to provide relief to the local commuters, reported the Hindustan Times.

While providing details, the officials stated that the proposal has been sent to add two new lines on the Asangaon-Kasara and Badlapur-Karjat corridors. Apart from this, the MRVC has also urged the state government to build a new rail line between Panvel and Vasai, reported HT, citing a railway official. The authority stated that new railway lines for the local trains will significantly provide convenience to the residents of several regions, including Panvel, Navi Mumbai, Vasai-Virar, and Kalyan.

The officials further stated that currently the same line is being used by local trains and long-distance trains, adding that the new corridor will be used by the local trains. “The purpose of MUTP 3B is 100% segregation of the mainline and the suburban. These three corridors are what is left to be planned. At present, the Panvel to Vasai is a mainline that is used by long-distance and MEMU trains. The proposed new corridor on Panvel-Vasai will be for local trains,” a senior rail official was quoted as saying by HT.
